JANUARY 2015 3 President s Post Murray Sherry Since February when the new Board was seated it has been an extraordinarily quiet year at the Cove The only blip in this sea of calmness has been the dog walking issue that thanks to Bill McKay and his Ad Hoc Committee ended up with all sides seemingly satisfied with the results I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have participated and contributed to this quiet situation This includes our management and staff Board members Committee chairs and members the more than fifty active clubs and groups as well as so many owners During this past summer season so many projects were completed led by the reconfiguration of the Harbor Club meeting room With Pelican Cove University about to go full blast I expect we will be hearing more oohs and aahs That brings me back to last winter and spring when our committees brought forth these ideas voted on them and sent them on to the Board for final approval But now the Board and I are itchy Both the November and December Board Workshops were cancelled due to a lack of subjects to consider Several committee meetings scheduled in December could not be held due to a lack of a quorum of Committee members in attendance I urge you Committee members to roll up your sleeves and participate in your deliberations And as the committee meeting agendas become known and published on our three bulletin boards in front of the Office and inside both the Pavilion and the Harbor Club owners please come out and join with the Committee members in helping mold next year s changes Your Directors are waiting This is also your last opportunity to step forward to run for election to next year s Board of Directors Auto Decal Distribution Thursday January 22 Friday January 23 Saturday January 24 Pelican Pavilion 9 a m to 12 Noon Bring a valid vehicle registration and driver s license Board of Directors Committee Meetings Committee meetings scheduled for the months of January Check Channel 195 the PC website or the Office for any changes Board Workshop Tuesday January 13 1 30 p m Harbor Club Board of Directors Meeting Tuesday January 13 After Workshop Tuesday January 20 1 30 p m Pelican Pavilion Bay Water Committee Thursday January 8 9 30 a m Wilbanks Ivy Room Buildings Facilities Committee Friday January 9 10 a m Wilbanks Conference Room Communications Committee Tuesday January 13 9 30 a m Wilbanks Ivy Room Cultural Events Committee Thursday January 8 3 p m Wilbanks Ivy Room Finance Committee Friday January 16 9 30 a m Wilbanks Conference Room Grounds Committee Wednesday January 14 9 a m Wilbanks Conference Room Harbor Committee Wednesday January 7 9 a m Wilbanks Conference Room Planning Committee Thursday January 8 9 30 a m Wilbanks Conference Room Rules Committee Monday January 26 9 30 a m Wilbanks Conference Room Community Channel 195 For current notices stay tuned to channel 195 or check the website Events Calendar at pelicancovecondo com

JANUARY 2015 Full Docket at Board Meeting from page 1 the 401 K Matching Plan that is effective for the 2014 fiscal calendar year Both plans were unchanged from the previous year Salary Increase and Performance Bonus for General Manager The GM will be starting the second year of her current 3 year contract on February 9 2015 and was offered a salary increase commensurate with the increases previously voted for staff as part of the 2015 budget Widening of Shell Path in Front of Bayhouses 1 and 2 The shell path in front of Bayhouse 1 1601 and 1603 Bayhouse Point Drive and Bayhouse 2 1615 and 1617 Bayhouse Court is uneven in width The Board approved residents requests that at the narrow points of the path it be widened to approximately 36 to allow for two persons to walk sideby side rather than one behind the other Holding a Limited Proxy Vote at the Annual Meeting regarding Limiting Ownership of Non Resident Controlled Entities to One Unit This is basically a repeat of the vote taken in February 2014 that achieved 80 concurrence yet failed because of the turnout of only approximately 480 votes at that time The Planning Committee believes that with a greater turnout a vote would be successful if held again If submitting the vote to the membership is approved the Committee will conduct a telephone campaign in January and February to secure a larger number of owner votes this time around The resolution was tabled when the Board decided that it should obtain attorney language for the proposed proxy vote A Special Meeting of the Board of Directors is already planned to be held on January 13 2015 to approve the Employee Benefit Plans for 2015 The proxy vote resolution will be taken up at that time since if approved its details need to be made a part of the Notice of Annual Meeting that is mailed in that week The Board meeting was completed in two hours and follows two previous meetings that were completed in an even shorter amount of time May this trend continue Breakthrough Prize from page 9 When Dr Perlmutter won the Nobel Prize Felice and Dan were urged to share their Stockholm experience with PC residents It was a memorable evening in the Pavilion with standing room only as we watched film clips a slide show listened to music had refreshments and shared happiness among the attendees And now the Perlmutters have another reason to be proud very proud 13 Men s Water Exercise Don Black For the 15th season the Men s Water Exercise group has started to make waves Weather permitting we are meeting every Monday Wednesday and Friday at the Pavilion pool starting at 10 a m We use an excellent 45 minute audio taped exercise prepared by a prior resident Gallon jugs are provided for some of the routines It is non aerobic and is geared to arthritic level participants We invite all women and guests to participate Many mornings during the season we have an overflow from the women s group The weather criteria we use is 55 degrees sunny and very light wind Please contact Don Black at 966 6462 or David Sohn at 966 6505 for more information Cultural Events Concerts Below is the schedule for future Concerts Monday February 16 2015 Emilio Colon cello and Derek Han piano Monday March 9 2015 Chelsea Wang piano and Jung Min Choi violin Monday April 13 2015 Sarasota Brass Quintet Pelican Cove Cultural Concerts New Resident Meet and Greet Information Meetings scheduled for Thursday January 8 at 9 30 a m in Pelican Pavilion also scheduled for Friday February 6 and Friday March 6 in The Wilbanks New Owners Welcome scheduled for Thursday March 5 at 4 30 p m in The Wilbanks
