OCTOBER 2017 Manager s Report By Jack Stevens General Manager Mother Nature decide to throw one more challenge our way and closed out the summer with urricane Irma This storm really tested our abilities to prepare and recover from what could have been a devastating event I am very pleased with how everyone staff and residents took the right actions and made the right decisions in preparation and more importantly came together to recover from the damage we received 5 how well everyone has banded together to this point I am sure Pelican Cove will rise to these challenges and be even better than we were Some of the decisions we need to make may enter into budget discussions which are ongoing at this time Staff s 2018 Proposed Budget was delivered to the community late last month The Finance Committee is making their recommendations and the Board will be sending a proposed budget to all owners later this month It is an exciting time to be part of Pelican Cove Make sure you join in on the discussions that will shape our future hile we were very fortunate with the ultimate path that Irma took we still received some significant damage especially to our tree canopy Our staff did a tremendous job of opening up Pelican Cove immediately after the storm and putting us back together in quick order e have made every effort to get life back to normal as soon as possible while continuing our cleanup and recovery efforts The work associated with recovering from this storm continues still and we anticipate having most of it done near the middle of October aving the ability to respond to situations with our own forces as well as the relationships we have formed with vendors over the years made all the difference in the aftermath of this storm ith a tropical storm still in the area we had over 20 employees on site and working on opening up our roads at 7 30 a m on Monday morning All of these employees had worked to secure their homes and many had to set up generators and overcome obstacles to reach PC due to ooded streets and other issues In addition our tree company was on site in force by Monday afternoon even after losing their warehouse and having to dig their equipment out to get here There are costs associated with this event that may not be covered by insurance and certainly are under the amount of our deductible e estimate the additional costs associated with the cleanup and repairs to be in the 80 000 range not including employee wages and salaries e have sufficient funds in our existing accounts and savings from this year s budget to cover these costs without the need to ask owners for a special assessment In addition we have filed a claim with our insurance carrier and are working with FEMA to offset as much of these costs as possible Moving forward we will have decisions to make as a community related to replacing damaged or lost trees and ways we can be even better prepared for the future Based on PELICAN COVE ART SHOW 2018 Mark your calendars March 10 11 and 12 Everyone who lives or works in Pelican Cove is welcome to enter two pieces of art And if you re not already in Pelican Cove remember to pack them IN MEMORIAM We mourn the passing of Name Bernice Hamal Unit HA102 On Date July 13 FORMER RESIDENTS FRIENDS James Gillespie September 12 Rosemary LoPinto August 3 We extend our sincerest sympathy to their family and friends
